Krtina D’Ampezzo does not try to represent Italy through grand statements. It does so through bold flavours, relying on excellent ingredients and a sense of hospitality rather than theatrics. The atmosphere is relaxed, slightly rustic, and warm enough that guests quickly understand what kind of place they have entered. Not a restaurant that explains every detail on the plate, but a house that is at its best when it keeps things simple. To begin, the octopus salad proves an excellent choice. It is seasoned just enough to let the flavours of the sea remain at the forefront. Next comes burrata with its creamy center, tomatoes, and a few drops of good olive oil. It sounds almost too simple, yet exceptional ingredients can easily outshine far more complicated combinations. For the main course, there is pasta with truffle sauce. The pasta is cooked al dente and coated in the truffle sauce that creates a distinctive sense of richness. A good cut of meat is equally tempting. When the Florentine steak arrives at the table, everything pauses for a moment. First comes the look, then a quiet sigh, followed by the almost inevitable: mamma mia. The seared crust, juicy center, and deep flavour show exactly why this Italian classic has earned its cult status. The same can be said of the classic tiramisu. To end the meal, guests are offered a small glass of homemade Italian grappa or limoncello, while the ladies receive a rose as a thoughtful farewell gesture.
