Chinese restaurants are becoming increasingly common in Slovenia, but the truly good ones are still most often discovered by word of mouth. Among them, Hong Kong 2 stands out – a Chinese restaurant with tradition, loyal guests, and a reputation as one of the friendliest in the country. The well-coordinated staff, led by the charming and talkative owner Aifen Ji, create a relaxed atmosphere, while the menu opens the door to a wide world of Chinese flavours. Among the most sought-after dishes are hot and sour soup, crispy spring rolls, pan-fried Chinese dumplings with spicy cabbage, Hong Kong-style duck, Mongolian grilled meat served on a hot plate, and spicy beef. To begin, we were won over by the dim sum dumplings, filled with prawns and served with soy, garlic, and spicy chilli sauces. We then indulged in a plate of lightly spicy prawns served on a hot plate, combining the sharpness of seared leeks with the rich, rounded flavour of the sauce. The dishes are far from one-dimensional – each has its own character, aroma, and clearly defined flavour, making it memorable in its own right. For groups of culinary explorers of at least four people, we recommend the Chinese Feast menu, which offers the best way to experience the diversity and charm of Chinese cuisine. At a generously laden table, you can refresh yourself with a glass of Chinese beer or jasmine tea. Slovenian wines are also available, providing an excellent accompaniment.
