Gault&Millau's review 2026

This exceptionally picturesque and popular excursion destination first delighted us with its sunlit views. But once the hosts from the kitchen introduced their culinary offering, the appetite awakened and the charm of the place became even stronger. To begin, we indulged in beef carpaccio with apple, blueberries, and a selection of cow’s milk cheeses from their own Golden Ring label, served alongside house-made jams. The battle between the young cheese and the aged camembert ended with two winners - both were phenomenal. The cheeses truly deserve a chapter of their own: they are produced on-site and aged deep underground in abandoned tunnels of a former Italian border outpost. Most of the ingredients are also grown on the family farm, which means the menu naturally follows the rhythm of the seasons. Among the warm starters, the jota stew with turnips and sausage stood out, while the main courses featured juicy pork loin with pancetta and roast beef served with sautéed potatoes and cabbage. A special mention belongs to the corn polenta with Treviso radicchio sauce, crispy bacon, and albumin cheese. The interplay of flavours was so irresistible that we would have ordered it all over again immediately. A tasting menu is also available by reservation, and the visit can be rounded off with the purchase of cheeses, cured meats, wine, or honey to take home.
