Gault&Millau's review 2026

Čompa has something that cannot be faked: fire, charcoal, flavour, and character. Small, direct, welcoming, lively, and confident. It is the kind of place that respects its guests, knows exactly what it is doing, and allows the ingredients to speak for themselves. Fans of raw meat often start with cubes of aged beef tenderloin served with various accompaniments. Then the real Čompa story begins on the hot grill plate. Here, the meat develops what keeps enthusiasts coming back: a perfectly seared crust, a juicy centre, and the unmistakable aroma of open fire. The grill is not just a cooking tool; it is the restaurant’s signature. It achieves what no sauce can add. The quality of the meat is exceptional, ranging from lamb chops and saddle of foal to dry-aged beef tenderloin. A special highlight is the Mangalica pork neck, which becomes rich, tender, and delicately smoky when cooked over the grill. The kitchen follows the seasons and adapts the menu accordingly. Depending on the time of year, guests may find asparagus, artichokes, zucchini flowers, or grilled Treviso radicchio topped with grated cheese. Just like Trubarjeva Street itself, Čompa is colourful, lively, and full of energy. If you want to experience the relaxed atmosphere of this small restaurant with a big heart, a reservation is essential, as seating is limited.
