Gault&Millau's review 2026

A good traditional inn is more than a place that relies on old recipes. It is a place where you can smell soup that has been simmering for hours, and where friendly owners and waiters know their guests and greet them warmly. Kmečki Hram is only fifteen minutes from the city centre, yet it quickly makes you forget the pace of urban life. It comfortably accommodates larger groups, while couples and solo diners feel just as welcome. Laughter often drifts from the locals’ table by the bar. The menu is broad and seasonal, so it is worth asking the staff about the daily specials. Among the cold starters, the beef carpaccio stands out, while the tender frog legs are a popular warm appetizer. The Wiener schnitzel, served with roasted potatoes and extending beyond the edge of the plate, recalls the days when it was a classic Sunday lunch. Buckwheat porridge with porcini mushrooms is another excellent choice. Portions are generous, so expect to leave satisfied - and perhaps with something to take home. Guests looking for heartier flavours can choose from a variety of meat dishes, including steaks, beef fillet, and blood sausage, while several seafood classics are also available. For dessert, the menu offers pancakes, ice cream, Prekmurje layer cake, Bled grmada, and other sweet treats.
