Among the rolling hills of Dolenjska, tradition does not require grand words. At Vovko, it reveals itself through the plates, the wine glass, and the rhythm of a place far removed from the bustle of the city. Guests may arrive seeking peace and quiet, but they stay because of the flavours. Even the homemade bread says much about the house, reminding visitors that a truly good inn often proves itself through the basics. Among the menu’s highlights are the house-made ravioli with a variety of seasonal fillings. The pasta is delicate, and every bite reflects careful handcraft and a refined sense of balance. For the heartier part of the meal, the kitchen relies on carefully selected meats. Mature cuts of beef or lamb from local farms appear on the plates, cooked to perfect juiciness. Seasonal vegetables and side dishes bring freshness and prevent the dishes from feeling heavy. The wine selection forms a chapter of its own - here, a glass of wine is not merely an accompaniment, but an essential part of the experience. Vovko also opens its doors to local distillers and the stories behind their craft. The sweet finale belongs to tarragon štruklji served with poached pear and softly whipped cream. With this dessert as well, Vovko remains faithful to what Dolenjska does best: warmth, flavour, and the feeling that around a good table, time slows down just a little.
