Gault&Millau's review 2026

Gostilna Šiker is a house with a long and proud history. Its story dates back to 1870, and for generations tradition and hospitality have been woven together through food and family. Guests are welcomed into a warm, homely atmosphere that needs no grand introduction - only the reassuring feeling that they have arrived somewhere where life slows down for a while. Every corner of the inn reflects the legacy of the generations who have preserved the traditions of home cooking while thoughtfully adapting to contemporary tastes and the rhythm of the seasons. Tradition is evident on the plate, while respect for the guest is expressed through attentive service and genuine hospitality. The menu remains firmly rooted in Slovenian culinary heritage. Dishes such as roast duck, stuffed veal breast, bograč, sour tripe soup, roast pork, homemade štruklji, seasonal mushrooms, asparagus, forest berries, potica, and doughnuts are prepared with a clear respect for both tradition and seasonal ingredients. This is a kitchen that values patience and flavour over shortcuts. The same philosophy is reflected in Šiker’s famous šarlota. More than just a dessert, it is a cherished family specialty with a story of its own. Far from being a passing trend, it has remained a house classic for decades - one of those sweet finales that encourage guests to linger a little longer at the table and give them a reason to return.
