Gault&Millau's review 2026

Gostilna Ribič is more than a place for a good meal - it is part of Ptuj’s collective memory. Long before the restaurant occupied its current location, a wooden bridge once crossed the Drava River here, serving as one of the main gateways into the city. Across that bridge passed not only people, but countless stories. A part of that history still lives on in Ribič, where the spirit of old Ptuj meets a confident contemporary kitchen. Yet Ribič is not a restaurant that relies solely on its heritage. Instead, it uses history as a foundation upon which it builds a culinary identity that is modern, assured, and deeply enjoyable. The menu often begins with the sea. Fresh fish, delicate flavours, and carefully considered combinations form the core of the restaurant’s philosophy. The sea bass ceviche and sea bass fillet are particularly recommended: fresh, aromatic, and beautifully balanced. There is no excess here: no heavy sauces, no unnecessary embellishments, just flavours allowed to speak clearly for themselves. Those who prefer meat are equally well catered for. The menu features dishes such as beef steak, braised veal cheeks, chicken breast, and lamb shank, each prepared with the same attention to detail that defines the seafood offerings. Desserts provide a fitting conclusion. The chocolate fondant arrives with a delicately baked exterior and a rich, molten centre that flows onto the plate when cut. Mango ice cream adds freshness and contrast, while vanilla cream and a crisp biscuit crumble give the dessert an extra layer of indulgence.
