Gault&Millau's review 2026

Repnik Inn, on the road from Kamnik to the Tuhinj Valley, has long been more than just a roadside stop; it is a recognised culinary destination, firmly rooted in nature, hospitality, and local heritage. In summer, guests are drawn to the tranquillity beneath the trees, overlooking the meadow and horses, while in the colder months, the cosy dining room welcomes visitors, its warmth highlighting the character of the house. Repnik’s cuisine is based on tradition, local ingredients, and time-honoured recipes, yet approaches them with a contemporary sensibility and a keen sense of balance. A standout dish is the homemade chicken pâté, coated in pumpkin seeds and complemented by the gently spicy fruitiness of pear and ginger chutney. Among the cold classics, the roast beef impresses. Thin, juicy, pink slices of meat are served with potato salad, perfectly seasoned with a few drops of pumpkin seed oil. The highlight of the visit remains the veal shank. Cooked for as many as 12 hours at a low temperature, it is exceptionally tender, juicy, and full of flavour. The meat melts in the mouth, and connoisseurs will particularly appreciate it alongside the excellent homemade štruklji. A crème brûlée with a hint of passion fruit provides a sweet finale, adding freshness and lightness. And this is precisely the charm of Repnik Inn: tradition remains alive, and the flavours leave a lasting impression.
