Gault&Millau's review 2026

At the entrance to Piran, guests are welcomed by genuine Primorska hospitality. This warm and inviting tavern draws visitors in with its understated elegance and strong focus on fresh, local flavours. At the heart of the menu lies an abundant seafood selection, renowned for its freshness and simplicity of preparation, where every dish highlights natural aromas without unnecessary additions. Among the greatest stars are the sea bass carpaccio with orange and pine nuts, and the cuttlefish risotto, captivating with its creamy texture and pronounced maritime flavour. Special attention should be given to the grilled squid – a simple yet exceptional seafood classic. On the hot grill, the squid develops a delicious, lightly caramelised note while remaining tender and juicy, as the air fills with aromas of the sea and smoke. It is served with uncomplicated side dishes that never steal attention, but instead further emphasise the squid’s natural flavour. The inn also offers a wide range of other seafood specialties, depending on the season and the daily catch. Its wine selection remains faithful to the local spirit, focusing primarily on labels from the vineyards of Primorska. A visit here feels like a walk by the sea during the most beautiful time of the day: warm, unforgettable, and filled with flavours that stay with you long after you leave.
