Gault&Millau's review 2026

Ančka does not need grand words. It is enough to sit down at the table, order a classic dish, and after just a few bites understand why some inns survive not because of trends, but because of trust. Guests do not come here to guess what will be on the plate - they come because they already know what to expect. The staff is friendly and attentive, the guest always remains at the center of attention, while in the kitchen, the legendary štruklji reign supreme - cheese, buckwheat, and chocolate varieties, served either as a side dish or as a meal on their own. A proper inn must, of course, offer a hearty beef soup, and the indispensable Carniolan sausage is equally essential, served with richly flavoured sautéed potatoes, mustard, and horseradish. Worth mentioning as well is the braised beef in spicy sauce accompanied by chive štruklji. And it should be said: the portions are generous and satisfying. If you still have enough room to try the legendary štruklji as dessert, you certainly will not regret it. Otherwise, you can end the meal with pancakes. During the season, the menu is enriched with traditional farmhouse dishes such as blood sausages or pečenice served with cabbage or turnips and cracklings, confirming that Ančka remains a true traditional inn in the best possible sense of the word: a place where you eat well and, without any grand philosophy, remember why we love places like this so much.
