Located in the very heart of Ljubljana, Aftr makes it clear from the moment you walk in that it is not just another bistro among the many found in European capitals. It is a lively, energetic, and stylish space with an almost theatrical character. The main dining area, defined by its striking blue tones, pulses with a relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere. The same spirit is reflected in the food. The dishes are colourful, visually engaging, and carefully built around quality ingredients and well-considered flavour combinations. Each plate first captures your attention with its appearance and then delivers on taste with confidence. The house-made focaccia with potato and rosemary, served alongside butter, is a perfect example. It sounds simple - and it is - but it is anything but ordinary. The octopus is another standout: tender, juicy and paired with adzuki beans in a combination that feels both thoughtful and fresh. Those craving meat will find expertly prepared steaks, while vegetable lovers are equally well catered for. In true bistro fashion, the menu is designed for sharing, encouraging everyone at the table to sample a little of everything and experience the breadth of the kitchen’s creativity. For dessert, the Basque cheesecake is difficult to resist. A distinctive chef’s signature runs throughout the menu, ensuring that there is always something new to discover. Aftr avoids the predictable, embracing originality without sacrificing accessibility. It is the kind of place where familiar faces and new acquaintances naturally gather, returning again and again for the atmosphere, the food, and the sense that something interesting is always happening.
