At Wine bar Šuklje, they have managed to achieved this perfectly. “We started with the idea of presenting foreign wines to Slovenes, because after coming back home, my husband and I discovered that the offer of foreign wines is quite small here. This is how we started imagining an interactive space where people who love wine will gather and enjoy themselves. We offer more than 400 labels on our wine list, most of them foreign: from France but also from the New World. We continue to complete our list with both Slovenian and foreign wines and our culinary offer is adjusted to the wines that we serve,” explains owner Katja Šuklje Antalick, describing the essence of the place she has founded.
Apart from their big, friendly smiles, all the waiters have great knowledge of wines and they also take part in many internal tastings, so that the guests always know what their glass holds. “It is hard to sell something you know nothing about, which is why we make sure our waiters know our offer well. Being educated about the wines we serve gives them confidence. The Gault&Millau award is therefore a special recognition of our efforts, for the whole team - each and every one of us. It is also another reason to keep trying and doing our best to improve every year and offer something different to our guests,” says Katja.
With a fresh approach, a wide range, education and hospitality, Wine bar Šuklje has won people’s hearts and now represents a true diversification of the wine scene in the centre of Ljubljana. No matter where you sit - inside or out on the terrace, with a fresh breeze coming from Ljubljanica river, you will always have a shining glass of wine in your hand, together with a delicious snack.
