Gostilna Jež has been pampering their guests for more than a century. Through decades they have designed and perfected their plates, and now the fourth generation under the watchful eye of chef Rok Martinčič takes care of the well-being of their guests. A nicely renovated pub has kept the spirit and the atmosphere of a typical rural pub: during the winter, the lively flames in the fireplace will make you feel warm and cosy, and in the warmer days you can sit on a terrace with lots of shade, or stay cool behind the thick stone walls of the house. The chef offers plates that combine traditional rural dishes with new culinary trends. The wine selection is also superb: they mostly offer local wines from the winemakers of Posavje and Dolenjska region. You absolutely must try their wonderful homemade cold cuts, and the delicious Krškopolje pig, a breed of indigenous domestic pigs. Homemade pâté is served with crunchy pickled onions. You will be blown away by their juicy huchen tartare, crispy and milky bull's testicles in panko crumbs, beef soup with semolina dumplings, and beef salad that tastes just like the one grandma used to make. Meat lovers will be smiling from ear to ear here – chicken, beef, and the Kroškopolje pig are everyone's favourites. The homemade butter bread is a league of its own, pasta lovers will also be very happy, especially when homemade gnocchi with different sauces arrive on the table. The base for everything here is homemade cooking, but the warm and kind hosts that give their attention to each and every guest give the place that extra something. It is well worth travelling here if you wish for culinary pleasures to bring a smile on your face.
