Not every castle has a wine bar with one of the finest views in the city, and not every wine bar comes with its own castle. In Ljubljana, however, you can have both. At the Castle Wine Bar, guests can enjoy Slovenian wines from all three of the country’s wine-growing regions. The menu includes charcuterie platters and sandwiches, hand-cut beef tartare, and an excellent selection of hot dishes, ranging from Idrija žlikrofi to crispy fried chicken strips and seasonal specialties. Whatever you choose, one thing is essential: try their prosciutto. It practically melts in your mouth and belongs in a class of its own. The same prosciutto can only be found at a few select places - at the Belica estate in Medana, where it is aged, and at Hiša Marica in the Brda village of Šmartno. Its flavour will stay with you long after your visit, and the desserts are no less memorable.
