Gault&Millau's review 2026

Among Ljubljana’s traditional inns, Pri Stričku occupies a special place in the hearts of locals. People do not come here merely for lunch; they come for the feeling of home, a generous plate of food, and the kind of welcome that puts a smile on your face before you even sit down. Guests are treated less like customers and more like old friends. The welcome is warm, the conversation genuine, and the goal simple: to ensure that everyone leaves well fed and satisfied. Outside, a famous blackboard displays the day’s menu in white chalk. Yet the board is only part of the story - the staff know the offerings by heart and are always happy to guide guests toward a dish that suits their appetite. Many visitors return specifically for favourites such as veal liver with mashed potatoes, blood sausage with cabbage and cracklings, hearty veal stew, stuffed cabbage rolls (sarma), or stuffed peppers. These are dishes that evoke comfort and familiarity, delivering the kind of satisfaction that briefly transports you back to childhood. Seasonality also plays an important role. Alongside the beloved classics, the kitchen embraces ingredients such as asparagus and wild garlic when they are at their best. During spring, dandelion salad with potatoes and cracklings is a dish not to be missed. When it comes to dessert, guests can choose between cream cake, apple strudel, lemon sorbet, and other sweet temptations. But perhaps the best approach is simply to trust the house.
