Gault&Millau's review 2026

In the heart of Kranjska Gora, where the rhythm of the Alps blends beautifully with a feeling of warmth and homeliness, stands the charming boutique hotel Pino Alpino and its eponymous restaurant. The well-coordinated service team elegantly guides guests through a culinary story with a simple yet eloquent motto: “Simple is delicious.” And it is precisely in this apparent simplicity that the greatest magic lies. The chef is justifiably proud of his fermentation chamber, where small culinary miracles are created. Guests can satisfy their curiosity with tasting menus of various lengths, while all dishes are also available à la carte. We were especially impressed by the confit dry-aged trout served with fermented radishes, crispy roe, and garum. Even the Wiener schnitzel is prepared masterfully. The veal cutlet, wrapped in a golden crispy crust, is served with a side dish that skilfully connects Slovenian and global flavours: traditional Slovenian matevž and Korean kimchi. For lovers of sweet indulgence, there is delicious Hokkaido pumpkin paired with homemade mascarpone, while the pumpkin seed ice cream with miso caramel and sumac crumble is equally seductive. As a sweet farewell from the kitchen, guests are treated to grandmother’s bajadera pralines and Cockta marshmallows. The vibrant culinary offering and enchanting atmosphere undoubtedly call for another visit.
