Gault&Millau's review 2026

At Gostilna Tonček, hospitality is far more than just a word. The warm atmosphere quickly creates the feeling that you have arrived somewhere guests are genuinely given time and attention. The inn is suitable for many different occasions, yet its true essence remains on the plate: seasonal ingredients and flavours deeply rooted in traditional home cooking. The menu features many dishes that carry the aromas of tradition, such as boiled beef from the soup served with roasted potatoes and horseradish, bograč, dödoli with crackling topping, veal liver with onions, as well as roasted goose liver and pheasant breast wrapped in bacon. Prekmurje specialties hold a special place, and while the kitchen respects tradition, it is unafraid of more contemporary plates. Pumpkin soup is served with purple potato gnocchi, while those seeking a lighter, seafood-inspired option can choose a risotto with mussels, octopus, and Adriatic prawns. The sweet course is equally memorable. The cheesecake is light and delicate, accompanied by biscuit crumble, a spoonful of cream, strawberry jam, and vanilla custard, giving the plate a playful elegance. Naturally, the true signature dessert is their Prekmurje layer cake - gibanica. Rich, moist, and beautifully layered, it rounds off the meal without overwhelming it. One bite is enough to understand why it holds such a special place in the hearts of guests.
