Gault&Millau's review 2026

Hidden in nature along the picturesque banks of the Drava River, Gostilna Pec is one of those culinary retreats where time pleasantly slows down. For more than a century, it has welcomed gourmets and travellers to surrender to authentic home-style cuisine. Although only a few minutes from Maribor, it feels worlds away from the city bustle, offering a peaceful setting for a relaxed lunch, a romantic dinner, or a family celebration. The premium beef used for the tartare, prepared with a nostalgic touch, is seasoned according to a classic recipe, while its texture remains silky and perfectly spreadable. Fuži pasta with truffles, prosciutto, and Parmesan is a dish that beautifully combines the simplicity of homemade cooking with the luxury of noble flavours. The taste of perfectly roasted lamb chops, infused with the aromas of fresh herbs and served atop a mound of creamy polenta, is elevated by a lightly spicy pepper sauce. The fluffy Pohorje omelette - a classic that has almost faded into memory - is brought back to life at Gostilna Pec in all its softness and indulgence. Served in a generous portion for two, with a juicy cranberry spread, dusted lavishly with powdered sugar, and complemented by whipped cream, fresh strawberries, and blueberries. It is a dessert that smells of childhood, the warmth of home cooking, and older times when life felt simple and sweet.
