You will hear the ocean in Gredič's plates, taste its freshness and minerality. On the fish menu, you will also find trout. They combine rice with prawns, serve angler with white polenta, and scallops with tomato marmalade. If you wish to rather take a stroll on land, you will enjoy the delicious tartar with shallots, or pork tenderloin with herb crust. Embrace the wine pairings, for their cellar is well stocked. For wine lovers, we suggest making a reservation for the wine tasting. The experience in such a grand place will be something very special. There is a special spot for sparkling wines that even have their own temple in the Gradič wine cellar.
Ošterija Klinec is located by the village church in the centre of probably the most well-known wine region in Slovenia. They want their guests to know that the best things are simple, and you must take time for them. They swear by homemade, homegrown, and local. Fresh ingredients are skilfully processed so they retain all the flavours of the Brda sun and soil. Then they spice the offer up with a heartfelt welcome and ecologically produced wines from their own cellar. A large sandy front yard, a garden with wooden tables, folding chairs and white parasols, a huge terrace in two levels overlooking the vineyards – time flows differently with a view like this. The interior is also charming, with a bar and selection of house spirits at the entrance, two rooms with old tables and walls full of paintings; they even preserved the open fireplace. Aleks Klinec is the head of the family eco-farm, working in the vineyard, wine-cellar and kitchen, while his wife Simona is irreplaceable in greeting and serving the guests. They offer few but exquisite dishes. You can decide for a three, five or nine course tasting menu. We paid 35 euros for the three course one. Homemade products from the Krškopolje pig are mouth-watering, the bread is light, with a crispy crust. The appetisers are from the Brda area and seasonal, just like the main courses, which are wonderfully backed by local wines. Barley is prepared with zucchini, roasted duck breast with figs and onions, cooked cream with caramel sauce.
“Catering is only for those who truly feel this work,” is something chef Tomaž Kavčič emphasizes often. There is also a warm and heartfelt greeting that makes the guest feel welcome and comfortable, almost like home. The bread is broken, not cut, which is part of the culinary tradition of the chef's family. Just like the horseradish spread. And when he opened a bistro in the elegant Renaissance beauty Vila Vipože, it was clear that he will continue this tradition. With pogača, – bread, similar to foccacia, which has its roots in the past but keeps looking into the future, he bows down to bread and its symbolic meaning. The dough rises slowly for 30 hours and he enriches it with a thick filling of vegetables, homemade meats and locally produced cheeses. A soft and light centre, delightfully crunchy crust with a delicious filling on top and a glass of wine is all you need for a perfect day. They also offer seasonal soups, meat or marinated vegetable tartare, gnocchi with radicchio and lamb, cooked on low temperature and served with smoked potato cream. Those with a sweet tooth should try the thousand-leaf cake, while wine-lovers will probably decide to order another glass. A very affluent wine-list is namely quite a temptation. They also organise special events here, the location is namely one of the most beautiful wedding locations in whole of Slovenia.
