House of Carinthia naturally serves dishes from this region. And what amazing dishes they are! Autochthonous flavours do not only excite the guests; they are a big part of keeping the identity of this region. Kibl flajš with apple horseradish, Helena’s plate with cheeses from three valleys and flikas, mežerli with potato salad and the Pohorje pot are only some of the dishes from their menu that arouse interest in the culinary discovery of this part of the country. After the recommen - dation of our friendly waitress, we decided for The Wishing Table: five house dishes and local specialties, served at the same time in clay pots with warm, aromatic, gentle rye sourdough bread with a crispy crust. Povitnek, softly roasted pork tenderloin with a thick, dark plum sauce, pieces of grilled young cheese and gentle cottage cheese štruklji pampers the soul and treats your taste buds. This place is ideal for wedding feasts, family celebrations and it can also be a great starting point for hikers, cyclists and skiers. They prepare big breakfasts and afternoon snacks with ecological products from the surrounding farms. Desserts are traditional: from the Kvovčevi nudli (pockets with dried pears) to buckwheat dumplings, Pohorje omelette and ice cream with roasted pumpkin seeds, which was a fantastic choice for a hot day – creamy, full of flavour and refreshing. The very friendly service and very affordable prices might even tempt you to stay there for several days in their Carinthian rooms. You will fill your soul with joy, because owner Helena Kresnik Pažek always makes sure that the house is always filled with kind people and good food.
