L'avis de Gault&Millau
“Noble” is the first word that comes to mind when visiting Kendov dvorec, because guests aren’t just welcomed by a wonderfully renovated old homestead and garden but also by a most friendly owner. She welcomes you warmly at the entrance and makes you feel like you came to visit someone’s home rather than a boutique restaurant and hotel. It feels like you have come to a gala lunch or dinner no matter where you eat – in the old dining room with a brick oven or in the master dining room in the new extension. Antique furniture, padded chairs, music in the background: all of this makes your meal a very special event. At Kendov dvorec, tradition is not only seen in the decor but also in their dishes. Most of them are based on almost forgotten local dishes, which makes them an intriguing journey into the past. The ingredients are mostly local: trout from the nearby stream, lamb and cottage cheese from the surrounding hills. They offer lunch or dinner with two tasting menus for 60 euros – one consisting of meat dishes and the second, lighter one with loads of vegetables and fish. You can also order specific dishes for dinner. We were charmed by the first dish already, a gently smoked lamb fillet served with marinated vegetables – potatoes and celery tuber. Their gnocchi – regular with duck stew or the ones made with beetroot are all gentle and perfectly cooked, just like their cottage cheese štruklji and apricot dumplings, which concluded our trip into the culinary past.
