In the shopping centre of Novo mesto, the Mediterranean inspired restaurant Barba pampers its guests with exquisite daily business lunches made with organic seasonal ingredients (some even grow in the chef's field), wonderfully prepared aged Slovene beef steaks, wonderful wine and music evenings, pizzas and fresh desserts. It is nice to sit on the terrace with a glass of wine and observe the lively surroundings. The beef tartare, neatly shredded meat of aged Slovene beef with slices of toasted homemade khorasan wheat bread, together with gentle burrata, cherry tomatoes and fresh basil was a wonderful introduction into the culinary experience. Black house gnocchi with king prawns, octopus, and parmesan cheese cream were nicely washed down with a glass of wine from their monthly wine selection and prepared us for the highlight of the meal: perfectly grilled and spiced aged ribeye with gentle carrot purée and crunchy sweet potato chips, sautéed broccoli and carrots. Soft, juicy, and tasty meat excited us and we enjoyed it a lot. The combination of tradition and modern touches together with its imaginative and attractive plates is a nice addition to the capital of the Dolenjska region.
