L'avis de Gault&Millau

The famous Kobjeglava restaurant has moved into the fairy-tale like Štanjel Castle where guests can enjoy the romantic places in the sun or in the shaded garden where many newlyweds celebrate their special day. The culinary offer is shaped by the Karst bora and the flavours and smells of the Mediterranean and Karst. The plates are colourful, incorporated with plenty of creative flavours. The owner and chef Simo Komel always stresses his home environment and is thankful for the Karst bora wind, which helps him make the amazing taste of aged prosciutto, salami and pancetta. He will proudly offer them to you. Even though they pay tribute to tradition by using Karst flavours and pristine aromas that remind everybody of their nonna’s dishes, they prepare them in a modern way. They flirt playfully with the sea as well, and the chef knows all the secrets of preparing meat. The desserts are a real treat for the eyes and taste buds, too. The culinary artist and his friendly family are the perfect hosts and because you feel so welcome you will not be in a hurry, so you will finish your meal slowly, with a nice choice of local cheeses. The plates tell the story of Karst ground and love, enriched with wines from both sides of the border. For lunch or dinner, they serve a simple choice of appetisers and a main dish or a menu up to 4 courses. In the evening, the offer is more diverse: short or long tasting menus, from 4 to 8 courses (ranging between 40 and 65 euros). An authentic Karst experience that will stay in your memory after a perfect day.
