Bar pr' Mrtinet

After a few turns around the idyllic Grosuplje countryside, the road leads you to paradise for meat eaters. A beautifully renovated hayrack serves as a picnic place and celebration venue while the legendary dining room with a fireplace is perfect for tasting their grilled goodies. They have developed a special kind of grill-oven where they make all kinds of food, meat being the star. This culinary house is run by Tatjana Koščak and chef Ivan Kastelic. The best salami makers often meet there so you will get some gems by local farmers (like game meat prosciutto, homemade salami and bržola, Krškopolje pig lard, beef carpaccio with wild garlic sprouts, young cow cheese with herbs) to start with. When they bring the smoked trout with horseradish and wild garlic, your smile will get wider and when you taste the wild boar cheeks with celery purée, you will feel like you have entered heaven. The deer medallions in herb sauce are also wonderful and for the grand finale, chef will proudly serve a plate of mouth-watering goodies from under the bell: lamb, veal or pork. If you are a fan of grill, try the perfectly marinated Florentine steak. Their apple strudel (made with homegrown apples) is truly tasty if you still have some room left for dessert. The restaurant is also perfect for families with children – they even have a corner for their youngest guests. We paid 35 euros for three plates. Don’t forget to book a table in this meat oasis in advance.
