If you are in Umag, we recommend visiting the Buščina Tavern. It is located between Umag and Plovanija, in the village bearing the same name. It is a typical Istrian tavern with rustic décor of wood and stone, and a large fireplace where you can watch your food being prepared. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, just like in your family room, and the owners are very nice. They will be very happy to present you the menu, which depends on the availability of seasonal foods and which is based on “the best of Istria”: Istrian smoked ham, cheese, Boškarin ox, fish and seafood, asparagus, and truffles. We had a great Boškarin soup, pasta with truffles and beefsteak in truffle sauce. The steak was unfortunately a bit overdone and dry. The chocolate cake was good. The pace of service certainly leaves room for improvement. The wine list includes local Istrian wines. Prices are a bit higher than in similar Istrian taverns.
